Matter Protocol - Smart Features for Modern Living

Motors with the advanced Matter protocol

Next-generation smart home control

ACCUBLIND motors with advanced Matter technology represent the most modern way to control smart shading—simply, securely, and without compromise. Enjoy the freedom to control your blinds via smartphone, voice assistant, or remote control, while staying fully prepared for the future.

What is Matter?

Matter is a new smart home communication standard that connects devices from different brands (blinds, lights, thermostats…) into one unified ecosystem. Regardless of the brand, you can control them all from a single app. Built on IP technology and supported by major companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung, Matter ensures fast, secure, and user-friendly control.

Key benefits of the Matter standard:

1. Universal compatibility

  • Works across major platforms (Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, etc.)
  • Direct communication over your home network
  • Integrated antenna directly in the motor

2. Maximum security

  • Advanced encryption protects against unauthorised access
  • Regular security updates

3. Simple control

  • Control all smart devices from one app
  • Works even without the app via included remote control (433 MHz)
  • Simple setup using QR code
  • Intuitive automation and scene creation

4. Speed & Stability

  • Uses standard technologies: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Thread and Bluetooth Low Energy
  • Fast and reliable communication

5. Future-ready

  • Compatible with new devices
  • Option to upgrade some older devices

How to Get Started with Matter

1. Check compatibility

When purchasing, look for the Matter logo on the product packaging - this guarantees compliance with the standard.

2. Prepare your control device (Border Router)

A border router is a device that connects Matter devices to each other and to the internet. To use Matter, you need one of the following:

  • Google Nest Hub (2nd generation or later)
  • Amazon Echo (4th generation or later)
  • Apple HomePod or Apple TV
  • Samsung SmartThings Hub

3. Installation & Setup

  • Connect the motor to your home Wi-Fi network
  • Open your smart home app (Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa)
  • Select "Add new device"
  • Scan the QR code from the motor
  • Follow the instructions in the app

4. Setting end positions

  • Basic setup is done via the remote control (similar to RTS/io systems).
  • Fine-tuning can be done in the app

Hybrid control - The best of both worlds

ACCUBLIND fabric blind motors combine the benefits of modern smart technology with reliable traditional control:

Smart control

  • App control from anywhere
  • Automations based on time, weather or other devices
  • Integration with voice assistants (Google, Alexa, Siri)

Traditional control

  • Long-range remote control (works without internet)
  • Easy limit setting directly via remote
  • Reliability independent of network connectivity

Comparison of technologies in terms of consumption and transmission

RTS (Radio Technology Somfy) and io-homecontrol motors have their advantages - such as easy remote control and device status feedback - but Matter offers a more modern and universal solution for smart homes.

Things to Consider

1. More complex setup for beginners

The first setup may be slightly more challenging for non-technical users - but our guide will walk you through it step by step.

2. Dependence on software updates

Matter is an evolving standard, so occasional app or device updates may be required.

3. Setting limitations

End positions and intermediate positions can only be set via the remote control.

4. Older device compatibility

Some older devices cannot be upgraded to Matter - this depends on the manufacturer.

ACCUBLIND motors with Matter technology open the door to convenient, secure and universal smart home control. Unlike older solutions (such as RTS or io-homecontrol), they are fully ready to connect with devices across brands - without the need for additional central units.

FAQ

Is Matter setup complicated?

The initial connection requires a few steps, but we provide a detailed guide to help you through it. Once the motor is set up, it runs without any issues.

Do I need a special HUB?

No additional hub (like TaHoma) is required. A compatible device such as a smart speaker, display, or TV is sufficient.

Does Matter work without internet?

Yes! The remote control works independently of your internet connection. Smart features require a network connection.

Can I switch from RTS or io to Matter?

This depends on the specific model. Some older devices can be updated, but not all.

Is the Matter protocol truly secure?

Yes - Matter uses advanced encryption and is designed with security as a priority. Regular updates ensure protection against new threats.
